Abstract: Polarization corrosion of LY12CZ aluminum alloy is studed using acoustic emission (AE) technology. Polarization curve and constant potential polarization experiments showed that AE events rate is linear to polarization current density. Anodic and cathodic polarization are both AE sources. Two types of AE signals are found both at -600mV (anodic) and at -1500mV (cathodic) constant potential polarization, but they are from different corrosion mechanisms.
