The STM8A is the first member of a new generation of 8-bit microcontrollers with products offering from 8 Kbytes to 128 Kbytes of program memory. It introduces the new STM8 CPU core featuring increased calculation power and extended 24-bit address space. With its new core architecture the average calculation speed is 10 MIPS at 16 MHz CPU clock frequency (1.6 cycles = 100 ns/instruction). From the developer's point of view the new core looks like the well-known ST7. The full ST7 toolset (STVD7 and STVP7) is available. An integrated non-intrusive debug module makes application development even easier. The embedded single voltage Flash program memory is designed for reliability. Another important feature is the embedded, true EEPROM data memory providing up to 300k write/erase cycles at 125°C. With this product family a full range of state-of-the-art peripherals is presented. Its modular design is tailored to fit the target application range of each microcontroller device, starting from a basic configuration for cost-sensitive products to full-featured versions for the most demanding applications. All STM8 products are based on the same architecture. The whole product family provides the same memory map and a coherent pinout from 80-pin down to 16-pin low profile quad flat packages (LQFP).
