Zhengzhou University of light Industry , Zhenzhou, 450002,China ) Abstract：This paper describes the background of software component technology, its significance and the current research status. The necessity of applying this technology into embedded systems is also discussed. Then it argues that new embedded operating system architecture must be introduced in order to support this new technology. Finally a case study is given to demonstrate how a component based embedded system is developed.
