The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industrial standard serial
interface between a computer and peripherals such as a
mouse, joystick, keyboard, UPS, etc. This application note
describes how a cost-effective USB Uninterruptable Power
Supply Interface (UPS) can be built using the Cypress Semiconductor
single-chip CY7C63001 USB controller. The document
starts with the basic operations of an uninterruptable
power supply followed by an introduction to the CY7C63001
USB controller. A schematic of the CY7C63001 USB controller
to the RS-232 of the UPS connection can be found in the
Hardware Implementation Section.
