Nearly a decade since it was irst introduced， Near Field Communication （NFC） is entering the consumer technology mass market. Soon to be available on hundreds of millions of smart phones and portable personal information devices such as tablet computers，NFC provides a short-range wireless data connection that enables an array of new consumer services. Many of these services，in particular those described as electronic wallet functions，utilize information that users want to keep private. In fact，high conidence that personal data and inancial transactions are protected is critical to wide market success for NFC。
