Modern AV equipment such as TVs, AV receivers and even rear-seat infotainment systems in automobiles are exhibiting ever-increasing complexity driven by advancements in digital signal processing. Most consumer AV devices will reproduce, record, and store standard-definition and high-definition video signals. The introduction of new video standards, coupled with the requirement for backward-compatibility to older standards, has caused a surge in the number of inputs and outputs that AV equipment must handle, as well as increased internal signal routing between various signal processing blocks. This includes headphone outputs, sockets for audio and video encoders and decoders, and connections for external DVD players.
