Introduction The architecture of a data acquisition system utilizing the processing capa- bility of a DSP chip has existed for many years. The ability to do this in a local loop in real time is available today with chips such as the Texas Instru- ments’1 floating-point TMS320C6713. The advantages of such an approach for real-time processing are many. But also of great interest is the ability for users to stream fast data rates to a host in an economical way. The new stan- dard of USB2 2.0 allows high speed data transfer between such a DSP pe- ripheral or standalone and a host PC.
