Wireless data transfer is the fastest growing segment in electronics industry.
WLANs (Wireless Local Area Network) are replacing cables and creating new applications at
extremely high growth rate in both consumer and industrial segments.
According to recent surveys the total WLAN market is forecast to grow from 26 M devices shipped in
2003 to 160 million devices shipped in 2006. The dual band versions (2.4/5.2 GHz) are expected to
grow from 6.1 M (2003) to 83.9 M (2007).
About 60% of all WLANs will be used in A/V and consumer media applications. Out of the remaining
40% a small portion will be used in industrial applications, but even with that the potential for our
products is in millions.
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is the first useful very long range data transfer method
GPS (Global Positioning System) is no more used in dedicated equipments but embedded into cars,
cellular phones, industrial equipments and soon into almost any mobile object.
