 The Teridian single- or 3-phase energy-measurement ICs, used in conjunction with an external 32786Hz crystal, generate frequencies that may slightly vary. This application note explains the reason for the frequency deviation and discusses methods that minimize this effect.

The ICs of the 71M651X Energy Meter Family use an external crystal to generate all internal clocks. This crystal
is connected to the IC as shown in Figure 1, using two external capacitors
The oscillator frequency is determined by several factors, such as crystal parameters, capacitor values, the
oscillator circuit, and trace and pin capacitance.
