Bimodal DC-DC Converter With an Efficient Pass-Through Zone

Abstract: A new, efficient dc-dc converter is formed by
combining buck and boost stages and controlling the
switches to provide a pass-through zone such that when
the value of the input is close to the output voltage no
switched-mode processing occurs. Efficiency is improved
throughout the entire range of operation. It is ideally
suited as a preregulator in automotive applications.
