The MAX31910 industrial interface serializer translates,conditions, and serializes the 24V digital output of sensorsand switches used in industrial, process, and buildingautomation to 5V CMOS-compatible signals requiredby microcontrollers. It provides the front-end interfacecircuit of a programmable logic controller (PLC) digitalinput module. The device features integratedcurrentlimiting, lowpass filtering, and channel serialization. Inputcurrent limiting allows a significant reduction in powerconsumed from the field voltage supply as compared totraditional discrete resistor-dividerimplementations. Inaddition, to achieve the lowest in-class power dissipation,the device uses patent-pending circuit techniquesto achieve further reduction of power beyond what ispossible by input current limiting alone.
