Introduction
Each NeXT computer includes a DSP56001 digital signal processing chip (the “DSP”) and CD-
quality sound output hardware. The DSP architecture is excellent for sound synthesis. Since
Music V, instruments have been built using elementary building blocks called unit generators.
This paper describes the unit generator implementation on the DSP in the NeXT Computer.
