The ExpressLane™ PEX 8311 1-lane PCI Express (PCIe) to 32-bit, 66MHz generic local bus bridge offers complete protocol translations between these two standards. The device enables users to add scalable high bandwidth interconnection to a wide variety of applications including communication line cards, surveillance systems, industrial control, IP Media Servers, and medical imaging. Many embedded system designs, Root Complex or EndPoint based, utilizing PCI today can now easily migrate to PCIe. The PCIe interface conforms to the PCI Express Specification r1.0a. In addition the bridge has dual independent full featured DMA engines which offload from local processors the overhead tasks involved in moving data from one side of the bridge to the other. Throughput enhancing features such as read ahead mode, programmable read pre-fetch counters, and deep FIFO buffers allow a zero wait state burst rate up to 264MB/sec. Additional enhancements such as on-the-fly endian swapping, multiple GPIOs, and mailbox/doorbell registers augment design ease-of-use. The PEX 8311 is offered in a 21 x 21mm 337-pin PBGA. This device is available in lead-free packaging.
