An imagesequence (e.g.television)isthree-dimensionalsignalsincetheimageintensityat
anypointisafunctionofthetwospatialonesandthetime.
Eachpictureelementor pixel representsacertainphysicalquantity.Forinstance,aphotograph
representstheluminancesofvariousobjectsasseenbythecamera.Butaninfraredimage
collectsthetemperatureprofilevaluesofascene.
Imageenhancement techniquesemphasizespecificimagefeaturestoimprovethevisualper-
ceptionofanimage.
