Radio frequency identifi cation (RFID) is an auto-ID technologythat identifi es any object that contains a coded tag.A UHF RFID system consists of a reader (or interrogator)that transmits information to a tag by modulating an RFsignal in the 860MHz–960MHz frequency range. Typically, the tag is passive—it receives all of its operatingenergy from a reader that transmits a continuous-wave(CW) RF signal. A tag responds by modulating the refl ectioncoeffi cient of its antenna, thereby backscattering aninformation signal to the reader.
